Elder Shadrock Porter, founder of Remember The 400

Founder & visionary

Elder Shadrock Porter

Shadrock Porter is an actor, author, singer, composer, producer, director and public speaker whose creative work has brought histories of enslavement, resistance and freedom to audiences internationally.

His theatrical productions include The Story of Ruth, Freedom Fighters, Shadow of the Slaves and The Journey. Through Remember The 400, he has championed August as a shared month of remembrance, freedom, celebration and service.

Porter received a Dora Mavor Moore Award for his performance as Nick Bottom in A Midsummer Night’s Dream and is a member of ACTRA.

Asher Greenidge

Asher Greenidge is the President of Remember The 400 Foundation, a passionate creative and community builder committed to advancing a vision of freedom, unity and collective progress.

Through her leadership, Asher is dedicated to the mission of making August Freedom Month a global recognition that brings the diaspora together to honour the strength, resilience, sacrifices, struggles and contributions of those who came before us. She believes that freedom is not only a part of our history—it is a legacy that must be remembered, celebrated and carried forward.

With her love for dancing, singing and acting, Asher understands the powerful role the arts can play in telling our stories and bringing people together. Through event coordination and community engagement, she helps create meaningful experiences that celebrate culture, foster connection and inspire a deeper sense of belonging and purpose.

As President, Asher is helping to build a lasting vision where communities across the diaspora can come together in celebration, purpose and unity—honouring yesterday, embracing today and preparing for a better tomorrow.

Pansy Wheatle

Pansy Wheatle is a dedicated volunteer, community outreach coordinator, and Vice President of Remember The 400 Foundation. Guided by the belief that meaningful change begins with showing up and lending a hand, she brings compassion, organization, and energy to initiatives that support individuals and families.

With a background in business and extensive professional experience, Pansy contributes strong organizational, communication, and people-focused skills. As an Events Coordinator, she helped plan and coordinate outreach efforts focused on food security, family support, fundraising, and practical resources for people in need. Through this work, she has connected with people from diverse backgrounds, listened to their needs, and helped create opportunities for support and connection.

Pansy believes outreach is personal. She values listening, building genuine relationships, and treating everyone with dignity and kindness. Whether coordinating an event, connecting someone with resources, or offering a helping hand, she understands that even a small gesture can have a lasting impact.

She continues to dedicate her time and energy to causes that matter to her, working alongside others committed to making a positive difference.

Karen Hines

Karen Hines is a dedicated financial professional and advocate for cultural awareness and empowerment. She holds a master’s degree in finance and accounting and brings extensive financial management, governance and organizational leadership experience to her work.

Karen serves as Treasurer and Head of Fundraising for the Remember The 400 Foundation, where she is responsible for promoting sound financial stewardship, strengthening accountability, and developing fundraising initiatives that support the Foundation’s mission. She is committed to building meaningful partnerships with individuals, businesses, sponsors and community organizations to secure the resources needed to advance the Foundation’s educational, cultural and community-focused programs.

Karen is passionate about preserving history and creating opportunities for future generations. She believes that remembering the past must inspire purposeful action in the present. Her leadership is grounded in integrity, service, collaboration and a genuine desire to strengthen communities.

Through her work with Remember The 400 Foundation, Karen continues to champion initiatives that honour the resilience and contributions of the African diaspora, promote education and cultural pride, and ensure that the Foundation’s impact is both lasting and far-reaching.

Carol Simmonds, Admin. & Operations Director

Carol Simmonds

Carol Simmonds has a background in Computer Science with more than 20 years of experience in the telecommunications field. Throughout her career, she held management responsibilities overseeing daily operations and the maintenance of organizational communication networks. Her experience also includes directing technical staff, overseeing training and recruitment, implementing government regulations, and collaborating with senior leadership to develop and strengthen operational policies.

Carol currently serves as the Admin. & Operations Director of Remember The 400, where she is deeply committed to advancing the organization’s mission of having the month of August officially proclaimed as Freedom Month across the globe.

Carol strongly believes in the importance of understanding and preserving our history. She is inspired by the powerful words, “A people without the knowledge of their history, origin, and culture is like a tree without roots.” — Shadrock Porter

For Carol, these words are a call to remember our history, honour those who came before us, and use the lessons of the past to build a stronger and more united future. She believes that education and a deeper understanding of history can provide a pathway toward healing racial divisions, building bridges between people and communities, and cultivating a society where equity, peace, and prosperity can flourish for all.

Now retired from her professional career in telecommunications, Carol continues to contribute her experience, leadership and passion through her work with Remember The 400. Outside of her community involvement, she enjoys sewing, expanding her culinary skills, and spending time pursuing her personal interests.

Carol currently resides in Toronto, Canada.

Raychelle Fowler

Raychelle Fowler is a marketing professional, community advocate, and strategic storyteller with more than 10 years of experience in financial services and over six years of specialized marketing experience. She currently serves as a Marketing Specialist with Alterna Savings, where her work spans community-focused marketing, partnerships, sponsorships, events, and integrated campaigns designed to strengthen relationships and connect organizations with the communities they serve.

As Strategic Board Advisor, Marketing & Communications for Remember The 400, Raychelle brings together strategic marketing expertise and a passion for meaningful, community-centered storytelling. She helps guide the organization’s brand, communications, and engagement strategy, ensuring its message reaches new audiences while remaining grounded in its purpose.

For Raychelle, the work of Remember The 400 is about more than remembering history—it is about ensuring that history continues to inform, inspire, and connect future generations. Through thoughtful storytelling and community engagement, she is committed to helping honour the past, strengthen community today, and carry the legacy forward.
